About

I’ve wanted to start this for a long time. In fact, I’ve made multiple attempts at it. But putting it off isn’t an option anymore. Growing only begins after something is planted. Let’s start planting!

Welcome to Planted for Purpose.

Where the name comes from

The picture that stays with me is the one in Psalm 1: a tree planted by streams of water that bears fruit in its season. Notice the order. The tree is planted first, and the fruit comes later. It doesn’t strain to produce. It’s rooted, so it produces.

Most of us get that backwards. We chase purpose to prove our worth, and we stay exhausted because we’re trying to grow fruit without roots. I believe the starting place is identity: knowing who you are in Christ, and letting what you do flow from that.

Why I’m writing

I spent my teen years searching for purpose in all the wrong places. Trying to prove myself to the world, I became bound to addiction and motivated by the wrong things, and I ended up exhausted and discouraged. Then, one Wednesday night in September 2007, the love of God overwhelmed me. I asked, “Why would a perfect God love someone this broken?” The answer gripped me and set me on the path to discovering purpose.

That night changed the direction of my life, and I’ve been learning ever since how faith, leadership, business, and community connect. Today I manage my own sales firm for U.S.-based companies and serve as an assistant pastor at a local church in the Philippines. Whether I’m talking with business owners in the U.S. or young people here, I keep seeing the same thing: people are hungry to know they matter and that their work counts.

What you’ll find here

  • Identity & Purpose: who you are before what you do
  • Faith at Work: biblical principles for business and leadership that you can actually apply on Monday
  • Stories from the Field: honest lessons from building and serving, including the failures
  • Community & Impact: how ordinary people strengthen the places they live

Who this is for

If you’re a leader carrying more than you can say out loud, an entrepreneur wondering whether your work matters to God, or someone who feels called to something but doesn’t know where to start, you’re in the right place. You don’t have to be perfect, and you don’t have to have it figured out. I haven’t either.

You’re invited

I’d like this to be a conversation, not a lecture. Tell me in the comments: What is one area of your life where you’re asking, “Am I planted, or am I just busy?”

And if you’d like to follow along, subscribe below. I’ll send new posts straight to you, plus a free Purpose Clarity Worksheet to get you started.

Let’s grow something that lasts.

I’m Tyler

Planted for Purpose sprouted from years of missionary and community development work in the Philippines. There I saw remarkable resilience, and I also saw how many people, myself included, push through life without ever being told why they’re here. This space exists to help us find that answer together.
